About Rachel >> My Story

In Darkness, Light:
Life sometimes throws you in directions that don’t seem to make sense. I started my swimming career after a gymnastic injury left me with two fractured vertebrae. I thought the world would end without gymnastic, until I found swimming. As part of my rehabilitation, I got in the water to help strengthen my back. I decided to join my high school swim team my senior year in high school and soon found myself as a two time state champion. My college career started at the University of Kentucky, almost 400 miles away from home. It is hard being away from home, but training here is Louisville, Kentucky under new coach Mike Deboor, is going great. My biggest highlight in swimming happened this year when I got to represent my country as a part of the United States Olympic Team. I have had the great opportunity of traveling the world and seeing things that I would not have gotten to see without my swimming. I appreciate everyone that has helped me along the way, and am very grateful for the wonderful man I am about to marry. Jeff has helped me and stood by me throughout my career. I am also blessed to have such terrific parents and family whom have supported me all the way.
